National Broadband Plan
The National Broadband Plan, created by the FCC and released to the public on March 17, 2010, sets out a roadmap for initiatives to stimulate economic growth, spur job creation and boost America's capabilities in education, health care, homeland security, energy and the environment, government performance, civic engagement and public safety.
The SHLB Coalition developed several recommendations for the FCC to highlight the importance of high-capacity broadband for community anchor institutions. Because of our efforts, the FCC's Plan includes Goal #4 calling for 1 Gbps connections to anchor institutions in all communities by the year 2020. The SHLB Coalition is now developing an Anchor Institution Action Plan with more detailed recommendations for how local, state and federal government officials can reach this goal.
