Statement of Interest for the Board of Directors
Anchor institutions have always been fortunate to have SHLB represent their interests. The depth of my experience with the Kansas City Public Library, and as a longtime member of both SHLB and the IMLS will provide reinforcement to the SHLB Board in its advocacy for the needs of anchors, particularly given the new federal mandates for broadband connectivity throughout the U.S. My prior experience as a broadcast journalist and community nonprofit leader hopefully will also add insights to how the Board guides SHLB activities focused on anchors as integral players in local community development and for sustaining the impact of digital equity programming. After serving on the NDIA board for over 6 years serving the development and nurturing of community coalitions, I would be excited and honored to serve on the SHLB, reinforcing the needs and potential for anchor institutions.
