Russ Selken

Russ Selken, a seasoned leader with 28+ years in education, currently serves as Modesto City Schools' Chief Technology Officer (CTO). He spearheads progressive IT leadership, fostering innovation and collaboration such as, using predictive analytics with AI, leveraging data to tailor individual student education. His expertise enhances educational programs by implementing cutting-edge technology practices. Russ's career spans various educational roles, including CTO at Twin Rivers Unified School District and Butte County Office of Education. Notably, he was the Director of Networking for California K-12 Statewide Network (K12 HSN) which developed the initial K-12 Network Infrastructure for the entire state. Additionally, he advocated for necessary modifications to the E-rate program and trained applicants at both state and federal levels. Russ also served as a chair/member of the California Teleconnect Fund for more than 12 years, where he facilitated telecommunication discounts for schools and nonprofits. Recently, he developed and led the implementation of a free cybersecurity training program specifically for K-12 technology in central and northern California, known as SecureEd. He brings extensive experience and a commitment to advancing educational technology throughout the state.
