SHLB Applauds the FCC's Reforms to Enhance Rural Healthcare Connectivity

Washington, D.C. (December 13, 2023) - Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted to approve reforms to its Rural Health Care Program.  It unanimously approved the Third Report and Order in a proceeding the FCC calls “Continuing the Improvement of the Rural Health Care Program.”

"We are very pleased that the FCC’s Order adopted today several recommendations submitted by the SHLB Coalition over the past few years,” said Kristen Corra, SHLB’s Policy Counsel. “We commend the FCC for addressing key issues highlighted during discussions with SHLB Coalition members, such as moving the Service Provider Identification Number (SPIN) change filing deadline and enabling conditional approval for healthcare entities expected to begin operations in the near future. These changes will streamline program rules and reduce administrative burdens on participants, which will enhance flexibility for program beneficiaries.”
